I had an interesting conversation with a friend the other day. I asked if he thought there would ever be another Great Band: The Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin we mostly agreed on. We talked about lots: Nirvana? U2? Maybe we just count everyone who has a box set. It didn’t matter: I couldn’t really imagine any of the bands I listen to being remembered.
I changed my mind today, three things happened:
- I caught up with my podcasts this morning and heard npr listeners choose In Rainbows for album of the year on all songs considered
- I put In Rainbows on the stereo and remembered again how good it is.
- I picked up the new Wired read David Byrne’s interview and article about Radiohead and the future of music.
That last one tipped the scales.
I remember Colin saying he didn’t like the new Radiohead album much, but for whatever reason I think they’re our Great Band.
&, check out the disbox—looks pretty awesome.
