Monome 40h

I’m obsessed with the Monome 40h. The Monome is basically a bunch of buttons with led lights underneath. That’s it.

The Monome’s build plans are online, and there is lots of open source software written specifically for the monome. Tinkering is encouraged. This is especially cool because evidently the Monome “plays well with ruby”.

Monome is what you make it. I’ve seen examples of the Monome functioning as an input device for creating music, an output device, a gaming platform.

we seek less complex, more versatile tools: accessible, yet fundamentally adaptable. we believe these parameters are most directly achieved through minimalistic design, enabling users to more quickly discover new ways to work, play, and connect. we see flexibility not as a feature, but as a foundation.

The Monome sells for about $500 assembled(they’re hand made in Philly from domestic and local-when-available parts). They also sell a DIY kit for less than half that. I just ordered a kit. This could be fun!
