I read Jim’s post about the foxes denning near Snow King Ave – it’s about 3 blocks from my house so I decided to ride my bike over yesterday afternoon.

There’s something that escapes description when you’re watching something so natural and so close. I took some video while I was standing there. It’s un-edited and I’m not sure that the feeling will translate. You’ll hear the road noise (though it sounds much louder in the video), and one video pans around to let you see where these foxes actually are—it’s amazing that they seem so unfazed by the crowds and the traffic noises.

Also, in the spirit of summer, I made a muxtape just for you.
Muxtape rules.

Ran across some good articles by interesting people supporting Obama. Like lots of the interesting stuff I run across, I found these via Waxy.org. Thought I’d share.

See what Leonard Lin, Michael Chabon, xkcd, and Lawerence Lessig (back in 2007) have to say.

An interesting sidenote: whoever registered barakobama.com (notice the missing ‘c’) points the domain to a google search for Barack Obama with a ‘c’.

clinttag:ctro.net,2007-12-23:712007-12-23T21:39:00Z2007-12-23T21:39:58ZGreat Band

I had an interesting conversation with a friend the other day. I asked if he thought there would ever be another Great Band: The Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin we mostly agreed on. We talked about lots: Nirvana? U2? Maybe we just count everyone who has a box set. It didn’t matter: I couldn’t really imagine any of the bands I listen to being remembered.

I changed my mind today, three things happened:

I caught up with my podcasts this morning and heard npr listeners choose In Rainbows for album of the year on all songs considered

I put In Rainbows on the stereo and remembered again how good it is.

I picked up the new Wired read David Byrne’s interview and article about Radiohead and the future of music.

That last one tipped the scales.

I remember Colin saying he didn’t like the new Radiohead album much, but for whatever reason I think they’re our Great Band.

&, check out the disbox—looks pretty awesome.

Everyone I know uses iterm

After upgrading to Leopard I noticed that the new Terminal.app has tabs!
... And a cleaner look. Also, key combos for switching between open tabs make more sense in Terminal than they do in iTerm.

I just deleted iTerm from my applications folder.

My buddy Dave Towers recommended the new Ha Ha Tonka album last week. It’s called
Buckle in the Bible Belt

It’s good.

Sometimes I get things stuck in my head. For the past few days I’ve had the chorus from “St. Nick On The Fourth in a Fervor” stuck:

This glimpse of brilliance is much better than your long look at mediocrity

Listen to that song, it’ll make you want to run around in circles and wave your arms. At least, that’s how it makes me feel.

Didn’t know how I was going to get a faceplate made for the monome (the kit version doesn’t come with one).

But, I managed to dig up a cad drawing of a faceplate and send it to a machining shop in town (GH20 Machining right here in Jackson) and I had this aluminum part the next day. It’s pretty sweet. And, awesome and surprising that I could get it done in town and so quickly.

local == good.

Wanna drink less coffee? Drink tea. Right.

I was there once. Tea sucks.

... until i got a new teakettle. I haven’t been making much coffee lately—mostly because I like using my tea kettle so much. The handle is perfect and never gets hot. It’s sexy and red in the morning when I’m squint-eyed and shuffling. The whistle sounds like a train that’s far away.

I remember a fairly anonymous band doing this a few months ago, but I think this might be the first time a band as big as radiohead has let fans decide the price of their album. I decided to pay $12. It’s my lucky number.
